The diagnosis of obesity in women by 28 percent reduces the probability of a successful pregnancy, according to research done by the University of Michigan, USA. Obstetricians considered the health of almost 50,000 women who had used the methods of assisted reproductive technologies in order to get pregnant.
Clinicians examined the effect of increased body mass index on the reproductive function of female body and how the presence of obesity affected the outcome of pregnancy. For comparison, they examined data on women with normal body mass index, overweight and three degrees of obesity. Women with extreme obesity had the stage to 35% less chances to become pregnant, with an average stage of the disease the chance was at 28%, and with the initial stage the chance was at 9%, and with being overweight the chance was at 3%. In pregnant women with obesity, the probability of stillbirth increased more than twofold, and the risk of preterm birth was ranged from 16 to 34 per cent. The findings did not surprise the doctors as they say, it is a well-known factor that obesity is an internal inflammation for the body and harms the development of the fetus in the womb. Besides the doctors documented that women were not obese and did not use modern methods of conception, but with extra weight, they also had 14% risk of infertility. Based on the research analysis, gynecologists strongly recommend that women prior to conception of the child to pay attention to keep their fit and if necessary to lose weight. Keeping healthy weight will protect the baby from potentially fatal complications, because the mother's child obesity is harmful to its development environment, said the experts. Back |
