New Drugs Will Stop The Spread Of Cancer

November 6, 2009.
Observing the spread of cancer cells in mice, scientists have found genetic controller movements, which may become a new therapeutic target.

The genetic signal of TGF-beta in the experiments by British scientists has been directly linked to the movement of cells. However, the signal transmission was only in individual cells, but not in the whole group. Those individual cells migrate to other places, causing the development of cancercancer.

The scientists from London Institute of Cancer Research found a set of genes that determine the movement of cells. We have drugs that disable the gene, are under development.

Back in 2007, the scientists speculated that surgery, chemotherapy and radiation only increase the level of TGF-bet, leading to the development of tumors.

In the new study, the researchers marked the breast cancer cells and tracked them in mice. When the signal of TGF-beta was blocked, the proliferation of cells of the lymphatic system stopped.
