Scientists Are Developing A Vaccine Against Smoking

National Institute of Drug Addiction (U.S.) received a grant to implement the final stage of research on a vaccine against smoking named NicVAX. The vaccine was developed in order to fully recapture the craving for cigarettes.

Vaccination starts the immune system, when nicotine enters the body. The antibody will capture molecules of nicotine and prevent its penetration into the brain, depriving the smoker a sense of euphoria. Scientists expect that the vaccine will be in effect for six to twelve months.
