There is a new type of experimental drug against influenza, which is including an obstacle to the penetration of the virus in blood cells that may prevent it mutate into a form resistant to the drug, report specialists.
Tests on mice showed that the drug made by company NexBio Fludase may prevent the virus infecting cells, as well as to fight the disease if the virus is shown in resistance to the drug Tamiflu as the popular drug to combat influenza, reported the researchers. Large-scale studies had been taken before entering the drug in wide use, showed that influenza virus was unable to provide significant resistance, which made the drug effective against influenza. The research work was presented at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy in San Francisco. Private Company Tests θν NexBio Inc. showed that Fludase, known as DAS181, was also effective against a new influenza virus A/H1N1. Influenza viruses are rapidly mutating and developing resistance to drugs. Last year, seasonal flu developed resistance to the drug Tamiflu. Also, two older drugs Amantadine and Rimantadine are currently ineffective against the influenza viruses. Experts have high hopes for the effectiveness of new drugs, presented at an international conference in San Francisco. Back |
