Investigational Drug reduces the stroke risk among arrhythmia patients thrice as much in comparison with the popular
warfarin.
The medication dabigatran etexilate, produced by the German company Boehringer Ingelheim, also kills heart attack and stomach pains.
It is also known that arrhythmia increases stroke risk five times. However, warfarin, prescribed to patients causes such drug side effect as for example bleeding. Patients should avoid alcohol, spinach and cranberries when they take this drug.
The above mentioned drug labeled as 'Pradaxa' is already distributed in 40 countries. It was tested by 18 thousand patients with irregular heartbeats or cardiac fibrillation.
Warfarin decreases the stroke risk up to 0,38% a year. The new drug test results showed the decrease of the risk up to 0,10%.
