Patients with hepatitis C and other liver diseases, consuming three cups of coffee a day, a 53% reduced risk of cancer, report researchers from the National Cancer Institute. It was found that patients, who are not aimed by standard medication treatment, feel better, taking coffee.
The study included 766 participants with
hepatitis C, who received treatment peginterferon and Ribavirin.
The researchers divided the patients in 9 categories on the frequency of consumption of coffee and 4 categories on the amount (1 cup, 2 cups, 3-4 cups, and 5 or more cups). Every 3 months for 4 years, scientists have evaluated the clinical results include: ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity), the prognosis of
chronic liver disease, death, hepatic encephalopathy (damage to the brain and nervous system), hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), bacterial peritonitis, bleeding due to varicose veins or increased fibrosis.
After a year and three years in patients with liver biopsy was taken. The risk of deterioration of the participants who drink more than three cups of coffee a day was 47%.
